{pluson e}Libraries and Children’s Centres across the borough will be celebrating Barnsley’s own “Bedtime Reading Week” from Monday, 30 January to Friday, 4 February.

After the success of last years Bedtime Reading Week this has now become an annual event.

During the week there will be special bedtime-themed story time events for families with young children. Bookstart Bear will be visiting Barnsley for the week, and is looking forward to joining in the fun.

Penistone FM Community Radio (95.7 FM) will be airing bedtime stories including favourites by Julia Donaldson the Children’s Laureate, Nick Sharratt and Jill Murphy, all read by people from the local community.  Tune in or listen online from about 6.45pm each evening during Bedtime Reading Week.

The aim of the week is to encourage all the family to get involved in the sheer joy and pleasure of  reading aloud, and to promote healthy bedtime routines.

Councillor Jenny Platts, Cabinet Spokesperson, Adults and Communities, said: “We want to encourage families to read stories together at anytime, but this week’s events are celebrating bedtime reading in particular. Cuddling up with a book is a great way to end a busy day and including stories as part of a bedtime routine can help give children a sense of security.”

Contact your local branch library or Children’s Centre, ring 01226 773920 or visit the events guide at www.bookstart.org.uk, for details of events.
